Guided by a professional ornithologist and local conservation connector, we deliver high-precision, low-fatigue birding experiences deeply rooted in the Puerto Vallarta region. From Pacific coastal estuaries to high-altitude cloud forest summits, our extensive local network and decades of active field tracking ensure the most enriching avian adventures. Let us take you on an unforgettable journey into Western Mexico's extraordinary biodiversity!
It is impossible to talk about PV Birding without mentioning Alfonso Langle’s deep passion for avian ecology and regional conservation. Alfonso’s academic foundation took a pivotal step at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His master's thesis focused on the complex seasonal dynamics of migratory warblers and hummingbirds at Nevado de Colima, México.
When his research brought him to Puerto Vallarta, Alfonso recognized an opportunity: to bridge high-level scientific field methods with world-class ecotourism. Today, he balances his role as a university professor and researcher with running private birding expeditions—combining 24 years of active field experience with a profound passion for teaching and field discovery.
At PV Birding, we operate as a true local connector. For over 8 years, Alfonso has built close, enduring partnerships across the region with:
Boutique Hotel & Eco-Lodge Owners providing authentic, quiet stays near prime habitats.
Expert Local Boat Captains navigating marine sanctuaries like Marietas Islands.
Traditional Restaurant Owners & Artisans sharing authentic regional cuisine.
Private Preserve Owners & Community Forest Managers granting exclusive access to protected lands.
These deep-rooted relationships ensure our guests enjoy seamless field logistics, warm local hospitality, and direct access to pristine, low-traffic birding locations.
We believe birding should be immense fun, deeply rewarding, and conducted with absolute professionalism. Alfonso is an officially certified Federal Tourist Guide and holds specialized certifications in Open Water Rescue and First Responder / CPR.
When he isn’t leading field expeditions or teaching in the classroom, Alfonso lives the outdoor life—he is an avid open-water swimmer, trail hiker, and passionate advocate for native flora. To date, he has personally designed and cultivated two dedicated hummingbird gardens, creating vital nectar stops for resident and migratory species.
At PV Birding, our primary goal extends far beyond building an impressive species list. We aim to directly connect international birders with local forest owners, private preserve managers, and active community conservation initiatives.
We believe that sustainable ecotourism must directly support the local families and communities who protect Western Mexico’s fragile ecosystems. By choosing to explore with us, your journey actively supports habitat preservation, sustainable forestry, and local livelihoods.
Our Policies & Guiding Standards
Birding with PV Birding is about maximizing high-yielding canopy time, eliminating dead highway transit, and acting thoughtfully in the field—always aiming for rewarding days in nature and meaningful connections beyond the species list.
